eLaterna Companion gives well-founded insights into the main topics of research on the history of the magic lantern, the screen and the art of projection. It offers the methodological foundations as well as the basics of media and performance history to help secure the best use of the digital source editions in eLaterna.

The contents are divided into five sections. Surveys within the sections systematically define areas of research or methodology in the history of the art of projection. Basic elements within each survey describe and analyse subjects within the context of current research. Focus elements contain information on specific aspects to deepen the content of the basic elements.

eLaterna Companion will always remain a dynamic work in progress. New articles can be integrated continuously, and outdated content can be replaced by new versions.

The eLaterna Companion is available in a beta version. It is part of the research platform eLaterna Historical Art of Projection and relates to eLaterna Archive. Researchers and practitioners in the history of the magic lantern, the screen and the art of projection are invited to submit articles.
